Hello Aleppo Residents and Friends –

* There will be a Public Hearing regarding the proposed new Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 20, 2022 prior to the start of the Legislative Meeting.  An overview of the new ordinance and map will be presented by the Township’s consultants.  This hearing is open to the public, and will be broadcast on the Township’s YouTube channel.  The public is invited to attend and comment.  The new target date for the adoption of this ordinance is August 15, 2022.*

We had an Aleppo Workshop Meeting on Monday night, June 13, 2022, and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:

  • The Board heard a resident’s concerns about potential commercial activity at a residential property on Redgate Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Nicholas Khan introduced himself to the Commissioners and discussed his interest in filling the vacancy on the Planning Commission. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Representatives from Bankson Engineers presented a summary of the Township’s Act 537 Sewage Facilities Plan Amendment. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • A Resolution to formalize Aleppo’s participation in the QVCOG Joint Glass Recycling Program was explained. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • A resident expressed concerns about tractor trailer trucks and speeding on Redgate Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting on Tuesday night, May 16, 2022, and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:

  • Chief Hanny gave the police report for the month of April. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Public Works Supervisor Tim Scott gave his monthly report. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Some updates on the new Zoning Ordinance were given, including the date of the upcoming public hearing (June 20, 2022 at 7:00 PM) and that property owners with parcels that will be changing zoning districts will receive letters from the Township notifying them of the change. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Tax Collector/Treasurer report was presented for the month of April. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Quaker Valley Ambulance Authority will be working on planning events to celebrate their 50th anniversary. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Quaker Valley COG is installing a second glass recycling bin in Avalon Borough at 629 New Brighton Road.  Both this glass bin and the glass bin in Sewickley are open to all Aleppo residents. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Township is awaiting the follow-up letter from the Sewickley Heights Manor Board regarding their requests for Sewickley Heights Drive parking regulations and the request to have some control over the surface of the islands in the roadway. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Act 537 Plan Amendment has been submitted to the DEP.  The submission updates the Township’s official sewage facilities plan to reflect the township-wide sewer project that was constructed in 2012-2013. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

Here is what happened:

  • Commissioners Judy Haluka and Dan Darragh gave an update on the request for parking regulations in Sewickley Heights Manor. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The 2022 Earth Day Roadside Cleanup Event was summarized.  The volunteers collected 86 bags of trash this year.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

  • President George Jones gave a recap of the recent meeting with Sewickley Borough regarding the sewage treatment agreement. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

  • The Commissioners voted to make a $350 donation to the Sewickley Memorial Day Fund. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

Here is what happened:

  • Ohio Township Police Chief Hanny gave the police report for the month of March. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • An email from a resident regarding Citizen Participation procedures was read and addressed during the Communications report. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Tax Collector/Treasurer reports were presented. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Commissioner Dan Darragh reported that Aleppo Township Authority is continuing to work on replacing water meters.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Commissioner Judy Haluka presented the Quaker Valley Ambulance Authority report. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Quaker Valley COG Hard to Recycle Event Hosted by the Pennsylvania Resources Council will return to Quaker Valley High School this year. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).  Updated information: there will be two separate events this year – one for Household Chemicals and one for Hard to Recycle items.  Pre-registration is required for both events – please visit prc.org for information about the allowable items and to register for these collection events.  Links are also available on the Latest News page of the Township website.
  • The property owner and the Township are still working to find resources to address the complaint about the cat colony on Nancy Drive. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • A meeting has been scheduled between the Township’s Parking Committee and the Sewickley Heights Manor Homeowners Association regarding the Sewickley Heights Drive Parking Regulation and Island Control Requests (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

Here is what happened:

  • The Commissioners adopted a Weight Limit/Road Bonding Ordinance covering several roads in the Township, including Weber Road, Ferndale Avenue, Ingleside Drive, Weber Road Extension, and Sycamore Road Extension. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Ohio Township Chief Joe Hanny gave the police report for the month of February 2022. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Aleppo Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Bill Davis Jr. gave the annual fire report and explained some of the upcoming truck and equipment replacements. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Emergency Management Coordinator/Commissioner Judy Haluka explained that we will follow CDC masking guidelines in the Township building but that we may have special circumstances where we will still require a mask.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

  • The long-term closure of the ramp to Northbound Route 65 from Kilbuck Street was announced. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
