Hello Aleppo Residents and Friends –

We had an Aleppo Workshop Meeting on Monday night, February 10, 2020 and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:

  • The Commissioners discussed a potential amendment to the Zoning Ordinance that would regulate parking in the Commercial C-2 district and the related impact of the increased Amazon traffic in the Township. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Board discussed Deer Management education options. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Commissioner Darragh gave an update on a meeting regarding the Sewickley-Leetsdale Sewer Plan.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Samples of new street signs have been installed at the intersection of Weber Road and Park Way. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Commissioners heard about the bids received for the Deer Run Road Drainage Repair Project. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Board heard an update about the permit that Sewickley Borough received for their lot on Glen Mitchell Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • President Jones reported on the upcoming Earth Day Cleanup Event that will be held on April 18, 2020. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Commissioners considered a proposed procedural amendment to the Zoning Ordinance related to Oil and Gas regulations.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • State Representative Valerie Gaydos asked the Commissioners for a wish list of projects that she can advocate for on behalf of the Township.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

Legislative Digest

We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting on Monday night, January 20, 2020 and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:

  • Chief Hanny gave the Police report for the month of December.  The discussion included several issues related to the Amazon facility and delivery vans. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Commissioners learned what the Public Works crew has been working on. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Tax Collector/Treasurer reported on the December financial data. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Commissioner Darragh explained that the Aleppo Township Authority repaired several water line breaks in the past month. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We discussed the changes to the Recycling procedures by Waste Management (Aleppo’s trash and recycling collector), including that glass and plastic bags are not allowed in recycling bins. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • President Jones explained the proposed plan for Sewickley Borough to close their sewage treatment plant and send all sewage to Leetsdale for treatment. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • The Township is considering applying for a Local Government Academy (LGA) Intern to assist with GIS data collection. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Citizen Participation topics included deer management and further discussion of Amazon traffic issues. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

We had an Aleppo Reorganization/Workshop Meeting on Monday night, January 6, 2020 and I wanted to tell you what happened. 

* Scheduling Note – because the meeting was a combined Reorganization Meeting and Workshop Meeting, there will NOT be a Workshop meeting this coming Monday (January 13th.)  The next meeting will be the Legislative Meeting on January 20, 2020. *

Here is what happened:

  •  The 2020 Real Estate Tax Ordinance and the 2020 Budget Ordinance were discussed and will be voted on at the December 16, 2019 Legislative meeting.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Rhodes Avenue Geotech Monitoring equipment is scheduled to be installed within the week.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Cookies and Coffee will be provided at the end of the December Legislative meeting, and all are invited.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • 2020 Meeting Dates and locations were discussed. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).

We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting on Monday night, November 18, 2019 and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:

  • Ohio Township Police Department Chief Joseph Hanny gave the police report for the month.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Commissioners approved the sale of the old Public Works pickup truck and heard what the Public Works department has been working on. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The financial reports for the month of October were presented. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Commissioner Darragh explained that the Authority’s engineer is finalizing a 10-year capital plan for the Water and Sewer systems. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • A letter was received from Quaker Valley Ambulance Authority regarding their response planning for the upcoming work on the Sewickley Bridge. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Commissioners voted to authorize the Solicitor to complete the settlement of the lawsuit filed against the Township by Masonic Village and to authorize the officers of the Township to sign the release documents. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • The Commissioners voted to appoint Judy Haluka to the vacant Commissioner position for the term beginning January 1, 2020. (Former Commissioner Duplaga is unable to accept her recent election win and will not be sworn in for the term.)   (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
  • Highlights of the proposed 2020 Budget were presented.  The budget is scheduled to be adopted at the December Legislative meeting.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting).
