Hi, Neighbors. We had an Aleppo Workshop Meeting on Monday night and I wanted to tell you what happened.
We covered lots of ground in our race towards the end of the year. If you want to watch the meeting from the beginning, click here. Otherwise, feel free to click the links below to jump to the portions of the meeting that are of interest to you.
Here’s what happened:
- We heard from Masonic Village concerning its application for zoning changes that would permit it to build a children’s home on its campus. Particularly, we learned that in response to resident concerns, Masonic has decided to change the proposed location of the building from Redgate Road to further back into the campus, near the Starpoints Building. We heard resident feedback concerning the proposal. At the end of the discussion, a motion was proposed that would take the main motions off the table and bring them up for a vote in January. By way of reiteration, the “main motions” being referred to in this conversation are: 1) “Refer a proposed amendment of the text of the Aleppo Township Zoning Ordinance to the township Planning Commission and county, which adds a definition for a Children’s Home and amends the definitions of a Continuing Care Retirement Community and Life Care Facility/Senior Living Community as specified in the letter dated 19 October 2017” and 2) “Extend the time period to review the second option.” (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We reminded residents that we will be offering curbside recycling of Christmas trees this year if residents have them outside on 8 January 2018. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting and click here to watch a video with all the details.)
- We invited residents to stay after our meeting on Monday 18 December 2018 for Holiday Cookies and Coffee. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We proposed the 2018 Budget and Ordinance. We will be voting on this issue at our next meeting, so please let us know if you have any thoughts about the proposed 2018 Budget. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting and click here to see the draft Budget Summary.)
- We proposed an ordinance setting the 2018 real estate tax rate at 3.5 mills. We will be voting on this issue at our next meeting, too, so please let us know if you have any thoughts on the 2018 Millage Ordinance. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We proposed a resolution prohibiting the location of a mini-casino in Aleppo. We will be voting on this issue at our next meeting, so please let us know if you have any thoughts on this resolution. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We voted (5-0) to defer discussion of our Social Media Policy for 30 days. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We agreed to invite our Code Enforcement Officer to a future meeting to discuss property maintenance issues in the township. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We voted (5-0) to have the Township Manager send a letter to Sewickley about the status of the cleanup of its lot on Glen Mitchell Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We voted (5-0) to remove further discussion of the proposed purchase of the “Bingo Lots” from our agenda unless new information is presented to us. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed the process of reviewing and filling vacancies and term renewals for our boards and commissions. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed taking commissioner’s photographs for our new website. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We proposed creating Aleppo Township email addresses for commissioners and posting them on our new website. We will be voting on this issue at our next meeting, so please let us know if you have any input on this topic. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed the Revised Sewer Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement Ordinance and agreed to bring it up again for action in January. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We reminded residents that the upcoming holidays change our trash and recycling pickup days, so trash and recycling will be picked up on Wednesday 27 December (not Tuesday 26 December) and trash will be picked up on Wednesday 3 January (not Tuesday 2 January). (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- One of our residents asked for clarification about what the “Bingo Lots” are. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
Our next Legislative meeting will be on Monday 18 December 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Township Building. If any of these issues are important to you, please feel free to join us and voice your opinion. If you cannot attend the meeting in person, please feel free to share your thoughts with me by email and I will be sure to convey your feelings to the other commissioners.
As always, thanks for making Aleppo a great place to live.
Best wishes,
Matthew Doebler
Aleppo Township Commissioner
