Hi, Neighbors. We had an Aleppo Workshop Meeting last night and I wanted to tell you what happened. With the year end and some big projects upon us, there was much to discuss. If, therefore, you want to watch the meeting from the beginning, click here. Otherwise, feel free to click the links below to jump to the portions of the meeting that are of particular interest to you.

Here’s what happened:

  • We discussed the proposed 2017 Budget, including one disagreement among Commissioners. As it presently stands, the proposed 2017 Budget includes an increase in Commissioners’ salaries. Some people say this increase is warranted because of the amount of work necessary to serve as Commissioner; others say that increase is not appropriate. We will vote on the proposed 2017 Budget at our Legislative Meeting on Monday night, so if you have opinions about this issue, please click here to watch this portion of the meeting and then share your thoughts by replying to this email–I will be sure to share your opinion with the other commissioners before the vote.
  • We heard a presentation from the developers and engineers about the Ferndale Townhouse Development application. We will vote on whether to approve this application at our Legislative Meeting on Monday night, so if you have opinions about this issue, please click here to watch this portion of the meeting and then share your thoughts by replying to this email–I will be sure to share your opinion with the other commissioners before the vote.
  • We took no action on Tim Kelly’s request for a non-binding resolution supporting federal legislation imposing fee-and-dividend regulation of climate change. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • Commissioner Williams updates us on the process of the SWOT analysis, which will now involve individual meetings to finalize the process. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We voted (4-0) to approve the purchase of a new sign for the front of the Township Building and took no action on the purchase of coordinating signs to replace the existing “Welcome to Aleppo” signs along roads. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • I reminded the Commissioners about the QVCOG Holiday Party. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We discussed the progress of Sewickley Borough’s progress on the property clean-up on Weber Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We talked about creating an Aleppo History Group and asked anybody who is interested to speak with a Commissioner or call the Township Building (412-741-6555). (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We discussed reorganizing the Board’s committee assignments for 2017. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We proposed goals for 2017 and encouraged others to add more. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting; click here to see the list of goals we discussed.)

One final note. We will be having cookies and coffee following our meeting on Monday and invite all of you to join us. We love these digests because they make it so you can stay in touch with what happens at our meetings without having to actually come, but the drawback is that we never get to spend time with you. Cookies and coffee following our last meeting of the year is our effort to correct that, so please consider joining us for this one meeting. (Of course!–click here to watch this portion of last night’s meeting, including my invitation for you to join us.)

Our next Legislative meeting will be on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Township Building. If any of these issues are important to you, please feel free to join us and voice your opinion. If you cannot attend the meeting in person, please feel free to share your thoughts with me by email and I will be sure to convey your feelings to the other commissioners.

As always, thanks for making Aleppo a great place to live.

Best wishes,

Matthew Doebler

Aleppo Township Commissioner
