HI, Neighbors. We had an Aleppo meeting last week and I wanted to tell you what happened.
It was a long meeting (over 2 hours). If you want to watch from the beginning, click here. Otherwise, feel free to click the links below to jump to the portions of the meeting that are of particular interest to you.
Here’s what happened:
- The new Executive Director of the Quaker Valley Counsel of Governments presented to us and told us how her first 6 months in the position have been. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting and click here to see the handout we were all looking at.)
- Chief Miklos gave us his report on the traffic study the police conducted on Weber Road. That study found that only 0.12% of the cars passing through during the 13-day period could have been cited for speeding. Based on this data, Chief Miklos concluded that there is no significant traffic issue on Weber Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting and click here to see his actual report and data.)
- Tom Jarvie updated us about what the road crews have been up to, including a reminder not to park on township roads when the snow plow will need to come through (with a specific emphasis on Rockledge Drive, Sewickley Ridge Circle, and Weber Road). (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Our Township Engineer told us about two upcoming projects: paving School Street and Hill Road and repairing the storm sewer on Sewickley Ridge Drive. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We heard how much tax revenue we generated in January and how much money we have in the bank. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Commissioner Williams told us that we will have new Aleppo Township Authority board members starting soon and that they are considering changing the time of the meeting to accommodate more work schedules. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Manager Patterson updates us on the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System permitting process. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed the lot on by Sewickley on Glen Mitchell Road and voted (4-0) to have the zoning officer inspect the property and work with our solicitor to take appropriate action to bring Sewickley into compliance. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We heard that the police have visited a business on Glen Mitchell Road in an effort to encourage voluntary compliance in moving cars and tires and voted (4-0) to give that process time to work itself out. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed a lot on Glen Mitchell Road where a pile of material has accumulated and heard that our zoning officer spoke with the owner, who agreed to move the material when the ground is more firm. We voted (4-0) to revisit this issue in 60 days. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We also discussed the deer population control issue and talked about what land would be available for hunters if we chose to engage in this process. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We heard three candidates give a description of their qualifications for the Planning Commission vacancy. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)

- Our solicitor explained several options for removing multifamily dwellings from the R2 zoning designation in the Weber Road neighborhood. We voted (4-0) to have a zoning consultant come speak with the board. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- I gave a brief update on the progress of our goals for 2017, including marking our FIRST goal as FINISHED! (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed cars parking along Weber Road and voted (4-0) to have the police chief give us the letter necessary to install “No Parking Between Signs” signs. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)

Our next Workshop meeting will be on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 7:00 PM. If any of these issues are important to you, please feel free to join us at the Township Building and voice your opinion. If you cannot attend the meeting in person, please feel free to share your thoughts with me by email and I will be sure to convey your feelings to the other commissioners.
As always, thanks for making Aleppo a great place to live.
Best wishes,
