For Emergencies, Call 911

Hi, Neighbors. We had a workshop meeting on Monday night and I wanted to let you know what happened.

Before I get into the digest of the meeting, there is one topic on which the commissioners have specifically requested input from Aleppo residents. Commissioner Lisanti suggested that we use public funds to make a donation to one of the charities that assisted the township and its residents following the death of Kim Moran, such as Pittsburgh Pet Detectives. Our treasurer voiced concern that this would not be an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars. Please click here to hear both sides of this debate. Once you are informed on the two opposing views of this question, please click here to cast an advisory vote. I will compile the votes and make the other commissioners aware of the results before they vote on this question at Monday’s Legislative Meeting.

OK, on to the digest. If you don’t want to miss anything, click here to watch the meeting from the beginning. Otherwise, please click the links below to see only what is interesting to you.

Here’s what we did:

  • We heard that Waste Management had mailed out copies of the 2015 collection calendar with a mistake, indicating that recycling dates were opposite of when they actually are. A revised schedule has been mailed and can be seen online by clicking here. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting.)
  • We were advised that our RFP for a Municipal Engineer has been submitted to five firms, with a deadline for interested parties to respond of January 26. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting and click here to see the archive of all the times this topic has been discussed.)
  • We were presented with an updated road study, including the proposed order for the repaving of township roads over the next 10 to 15 years, which can be seen online by clicking here. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting and click here to see the archive of all the times this topic has been discussed.)
  • We discussed openings on the township’s various boards and authorities. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting.)
  • Commissioner Jones asked that anybody who is interested in serving on a township board or on the SHMHA Board Of Directors identify themselves–if you are interested in any open position, please let me know by replying to this email. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting.)
  • We heard that a letter will be sent to residents on South McCoy Place Road informing them of the process for renaming that road. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting and click here to see the archive of all the times this topic has been discussed.)
  • We discussed ethics training for township commissioners. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting.)
  • President Gartner expressed interest in forming a committee to investigate Aleppo History and publish a brochure. If you are interested in participating, please let me know by replying to this email. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting.)
  • Commissioner Jones recommended that we retain Lynch & Lynch Attorneys to assist us in investigating refinancing of our sewer bond issue. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting and click here to see the archive of all the times this topic has been discussed.)
  • We agreed to write a letter to Duquesne Light asking them to investigate installing barriers near the road side power boxes to prevent additional injuries in light of Kim Moran’s death. (Click here to see this portion of Monday night’s meeting.)

Our next meeting will be on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Aleppo Municipal Building. If any of these topics are of interest to you, please come and let us know what you think. If you can’t make the meeting, please feel free to drop me a line and I’ll be happy to share your thoughts with the other commissioners.

As always, thank you for making Aleppo a great place to live.

Best wishes,

Matthew Doebler

Aleppo Township Commissioner
