Hi, Neighbors. We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting last week and I wanted to tell you what happened. We covered a lot of ground, so there’s lots to report.
If you want to watch the meeting from the beginning, click here. Otherwise, feel free to click the links below to jump to the portions of the meeting that are of particular interest to you.
Here’s what happened:
- Chief Miklos gave a routine report on the police presence in Aleppo. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Our Director of Public Works told us what his crews have been up to. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed the importance of not blocking the plow with parked cars when it’s snowing, which is–apparently–a particular problem along Rockledge Drive and Sewickley Ridge Circle. To avoid us having to take more drastic measures (such as designating one side of those roads “No Parking”), please be mindful not to park your car on the street when the plow will need to come through. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- I read an email from a concerned resident regarding the Ferndale Development Plan. We also had two concerned citizens in the audience who voiced their concerns about the same concern and we discussed the issue at length. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Our treasurer and tax collector gave us our year-end financial reports for 2016. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Commissioner Williams updated us on the Aleppo Township Authority, including a discussion about improperly connected wiring at our pump house, which was resulting in false alarms; we expect an update on this issue within 3 to 4 weeks. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- I reported about a SWOT analysis we recently conducted at the QVCOG. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Our Township Manager and Solicitor committed to meeting to outline options available to make zoning changes, if we decide to do so. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We heard that the photographs taken by our Zoning Enforcement Officer did not show any recent change to Sewickley’s lot on Glen Mitchell Road and voted (4-0) to direct our Solicitor to research whether we could require Sewickley to get a permit with environmental, health, and safety conditions to continue operating this site. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed potentially unregistered vehicles in a private business off Glen Mitchell Road and voted (4-0) to direct our Solicitor to investigate our options with respect to this issue. We also voted (4-0) to direct our Police Chief to have officers speak with the owner of this business about voluntarily complying with our ordinances. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We voted (4-0) to send our Zoning Enforcement Officer to inspect apparent construction material on a private lot along Glen Mitchell Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed the drill rig at the bottom of Glen Mitchell Road in Glen Osborne. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)

- We discussed the Board Committee assignments and voted (4-0) against making any changes at this point, aside from appointing Commissioner Williams to replace Commissioner Schollaert as the alternate delegate to the QVCOG. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- Our Township Manager informed us that the new Aleppo signs have all been ordered. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We voted (4-0) in to appoint Sally Shipley as the Vacancy Board Chair for a one year term ending December 31, 2017. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We again discussed the vacancy on the Planning Commission and voted (4-0) to defer that appointment to next month. If you or anybody you know is interested in serving on the Planning Commission, please let me know by replying to this message. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We traffic safety on Weber Road and voted (4-0) to have the police department conduct a traffic count on Weber Road at the intersection of Leetwood Avenue. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We discussed a resident complaint of two houses on Veschio Drive and Weber Road with reportedly unsightly tents in the front yard and voted (4-0) to send our Zoning Enforcement Officer to inspect these properties. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
- We voted (4-0) to have our Township Manager explore the options to attempt control the growth of the deer population in Aleppo. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
Pshew!
Our next Workshop meeting will be on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 7:00 PM. If any of these issues are important to you, please feel free to join us at the Township Building and voice your opinion. If you cannot attend the meeting in person, please feel free to share your thoughts with me by email and I will be sure to convey your feelings to the other commissioners.
As always, thanks for making Aleppo a great place to live.
Best wishes,
Matthew Doebler
Aleppo Township Commissioner
