Hi, Neighbors. We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting two weeks ago and I wanted to let you know what happened.

It was a L O N G one! The list below has lots of information in it. If you want to watch the meeting from the beginning, click here. Otherwise, feel free to click the links below to jump to the portions of the meeting that are of particular interest to you.

Alright. Let’s get into it!–here’s what happened:

  • Our auditor’s wife presented our 2016 audit. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • Our Police Chief gave us a Public Safety report, including reports of several minor thefts. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We explained the progress toward improving the township’s emergency preparedness. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • Our Public Works Supervisor told us what our crews have accomplished in the last month. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)

  • I read an email from a resident concerning her opposition to removal of the islands on Sewickley Heights Drive. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We heard that buyers have inquired about purchasing several lots that are tax delinquent near Ferndale Avenue and Ingelside Drive (the so-called “BINGO Lots”). (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We voted (5-0) to appoint William Barnes to the Zoning Hearing Board. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We voted (5-0) to re-approve Minick/Wick Subdivision Plan. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We heard a report concerning failures of sewer pumps and an investigation of alleged dumping of unapproved substances into the sewer. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • I updated the Board about the Quaker Valley Council of Governments’ household hazardous waste collection event and Recycling Committee. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We heard that our MS4 application has been submitted and that we have new forms for documenting maintenance of our catch basins. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We voted (5-0) to grant the Township Manager and the President of the Board of Commissioners the authority to declare a local disaster emergency. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We heard that the abandoned vehicle on Weber Road will be addressed by the magistrate. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • Our solicitor told us that we have an existing document retention policy in place that addresses our transition to an electronic document management system. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We heard an update on the occupancy of the Industrial Park, which is currently at 69% occupied. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We voted (5-0) to table action on installation of a mass notification and public alert system until we have a database in place. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • Similarly, we voted (5-0) to authorize our Township Manager to begin to collect data for the mass notification system (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We voted (5-0) to purchase a $1 million cyber liability insurance policy and approve the contract with Laserfiche for electronic document management. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)
  • We voted (5-0) to adopt an Act 172 Volunteer Firefighter and EMT tax credit, including both the earned income tax credit and the real estate tax credit. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)

  • We discussed PennDOT’s request that we add Tom’s Run Road to the list of state roads that we clear of snow in the winter and took no action. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)

  • A resident asked us again about limiting the deer population and speeding on Weber Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)

Our next Workshop meeting will be on Monday 9 October 2017 at 7:00 PM. Please note that this month’s Workshop meeting will be held at Masonic Village, but the meeting remains open to the public.
