Hi, Neighbors. We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting last week and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Before I get into the digest, let me just say that this was my last Aleppo meeting and I am very grateful to all the township’s residents for letting me serve for the last 6 years. OK, sentimentality out of the way, here’s what happened:
- We heard what the police department has been up to in Aleppo Township. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #Police

- I read an email from a resident in support of HR 763. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #Resident #HR763
- We voted (5-0) to approve the submitted Verizon covered parking lot plan as recommended by the planning commission and HRG subject to entering into a Developer’s Agreement prepared by and acceptable to the Township Solicitor. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #Verizon #HRG
- We heard a presentation from Braiden Blosser, who is a candidate for the opening on the Zoning Hearing Board and made a motion to appoint him. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) - Our treasurer told us how much tax revenue we have collected and how much money we have in the bank. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #TaxCollector
- Our solicitor told us that the Verizon Franchise Agreement is ready for board approval–we will be discussing that next month. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #Solicitor #Verizon
- We voted (5-0) to contact the DEP to ask them to make a site inspection of 690 Glen Mitchell Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #DEP #GlenMitchellRoad
- We voted (5-0) to adopt the May 2019 version of the Emergency Operations Procedure for Aleppo Township. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #EmergencyManagement
- We voted (5-0) to hire technicians to perform AV tasks at Township meetings in the amount of $100 per meeting. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #AVTechnicians
- We made a motion to adopt a statement saying “The Board of Commissioners of Aleppo Township support HR 763, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. We urge our elected leaders to support this as a potential solution to climate change.” We voted (5-0) to defer this motion until there are 5 members of the board. - During Citizen Participation, a resident opposed any action concerning HR 763, another asked about plans for repair of Redgate Road, and a third expressed concern for litter in the lot that is being used for truck parking along Deer Run Road. Before I get into the digest, let me ask for folks who are interested in serving on the Board of Commissioners. As you may have seen at May’s workshop meeting, I will be resigning from the Board of Commissioners because my family is moving to Osborne. The remaining commissioners have, therefore, begun their search for somebody to replace me. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #Vacancy #Commissioners
If you are interested in serving or you know somebody who would make a good commissioner, please let somebody know. (“Somebody” could mean George Jones, Gwen Patterson, myself, or any of the other sitting commissioners.) I can honestly tell you that serving in local government is a rewarding, satisfying way to give back to your community. We need folks to step up and take a turn to keep our township running smoothly. So–again–if you’re at all interested, please let us know.

- I read several emails from residents, on topics including the proposed emergency exit out of the Sewickley Heights Manor, support for environmental legislation, donations to the Sewickley Memorial Day Parade, and clean up along Glen Mitchell Road. - We voted (4-0) to approve the William Eaton Plan of Lots subdivision plan. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #EatonSubdivisionPlan
- The motion to approve the Verizon covered parking lot plan was withdrawn and we voted (4-0) to remand the subject matter to the Planning Commission with an explanation of the newly learned information and to get the input of the fire chief. We also voted (4-0) to authorize the solicitor to prepare an appropriate communication to the new owner of the industrial park advising them of their obligations under the developer’s agreement of June 1990. - Our Tax Collector and Treasurer told us how much money we’ve collected in taxes and how much money we have in the bank. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #TaxCollector
- Our Quaker Valley Ambulance Authority representative told us about EMS week and asked us to thank our first responders. She also explained the reauthorization process and updated us about the services the ambulance authority provides to the community.
