10/16/2023 Legislative Digest

Hello Aleppo Residents and Friends –

We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting on Monday night, October 16, 2023, and I wanted to tell you what happened.  The meeting was held at Masonic Village in an effort to reach Aleppo residents who might not otherwise be able to attend a meeting in person.  (The November 13th Workshop Meeting will be held at the Township Building, but the November 20th Legislative Meeting will be held out in the community at the Aleppo Fire Station.)

Here is what happened:

  • Police: Chief Joe Hanny gave the Police Report for the month of September. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #Police
  • Public Works: Supervisor Tim Scott reported on the public works activities for the month and the status of the new dump truck. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #PublicWorks #DumpTruck
  • Communications: Commissioner Amy Richert reported on that we have resumed our meetings with Amazon representatives, and a resident of Masonic Village is seeking assistance in getting better cell phone coverage on the Masonic campus.   • Planning/Zoning: In the last year and a half the Township has updated both the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance and the Zoning Ordinance.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #SALDO #Ordinance
  • Tax Collector/Treasurer: Treasurer Clayton Steup gave the financial reports for the month ending September 30, 2023.  President George Jones explained that the 2024 Budget process is underway. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #TaxCollector #Budget
  • Vice President Art Williams explained PA House Bill 589 which proposes to establish a Landslide Insurance and Assistance Program for homeowners. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #PAHouseBill589
  • Commissioner Amy Richert thanked the Aleppo Township Volunteer Fire Company for hosting their Open House on October 7th.  (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #FireCompany
  • Citizen Participation: Residents thanked the Commissioners for holding the meeting at Masonic Village, and there was an inquiry about the history of Aleppo Township (note – if anyone has interest in sharing any history or old photos of Aleppo, please contact the Township Office!) The Workshop Meeting originally scheduled for October 9, 2023 has been CANCELLED. The next meeting will be the Legislative Meeting on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 7:00 PM.

The October 16th meeting will be held at Masonic Village.  Please see the Latest News tab on our website for directions to Masonic.

We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting on Monday night, September 18, 2023, and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:

  • A Public Hearing was held for the revised Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance.  The Ordinance was adopted by the Board. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #PublicHearing #SALDO
  • A summary of the August police calls was presented. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #Police
  • Chief Bill Davis Jr. of the Aleppo Township Volunteer Fire Company presented a summary of the 2022 fire calls and discussed some of the issues that volunteer fire companies are facing. ** The Aleppo Fire Company Open House will be this Saturday, October 7, from 11 AM – 3 PM at the fire station located at 131 Weber Road.  Stop by to see the trucks, get fire safety information, and have some food! ** (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #FireCompany
  • Commissioner Haluka is exploring offering a CPR training class that would be open to the community. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #EmergencyManagement

  • The 2023 Paving Project is partially complete, with some follow-up work still to be completed.  The Township Building parking lot will be repaved in the upcoming month.   • The Tax Collector/Treasurer report was presented, and the monthly bills were approved. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #TaxCollector

We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting on Monday night, June 19, 2023, and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:

  • Chief Hanny gave the Police Report for the month of May 2023. He reminded residents that any phone call you receive where the caller requests a gift card as payment is always a scam. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #Police

  • Lost Dog: Commissioner Haluka reported that a Yorkie named Dexter was lost from a home near the back end of Sewickley Heights Drive and asked that people be on the lookout for the dog. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #LostDog
