We had an Aleppo Legislative Meeting on Tuesday night, March 21, 2023, and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Here is what happened:
- Commissioner Haluka updated the Commissioners about the Emergency Management Coordinator training requirements. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #EmergencyManagement

- Solicitor Anna Jewart reported that Emergency Management Coordinators can serve multiple communities by following state approval guidelines and that Solicitor Stone is working on the Resolution governing certain financial notification policies between the Township and the Authority. - The 2023 Earth Day Roadside Cleanup Event will be held on Saturday April 22, 2023. We will meet at the Township Building at 9:00 AM for donuts and coffee before heading out to clean up some trash. All are welcome! (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #EarthDay

Here is what happened:
- Auditor Kim Turnley presented the 2021 Audit. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #Audit

- A question/complaint regarding Open Burning was discussed. Aleppo follows Allegheny County regulations for Open Burning; these regulations are posted on the Township website under Latest News, Fire, and Local Laws. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #OpenBurning
- Vice President Williams announced that the annual Quaker Valley COG dinner would be held on October 5, 2022. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #QuakerValleyCOG
- Solicitor Harlan Stone updated the Board about two new issues of legislation in Pennsylvania. The first bill allows municipalities to regulate consumer/personal fireworks displays in the Township, and the second bill (Act 56) will provide some penalty forgiveness for new property owners who were not aware of their property tax obligation in the first year of ownership. - A potential donation to Sewickley’s Light Up Night was discussed. The issue was tabled until October. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #LightUpNight
- Two recent Redgate Road/River Road truck accidents were discussed. The Township is working with Haysville and the QVCOG to request that PennDOT evaluate the signage along the state-owned roads in an attempt to deter large trucks from traveling down Redgate Road. Here is what happened:
- The Ordinance prohibiting the feeding of deer was adopted. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #Deer #Ordinance
- Chief Hanny gave the December 2022 police report and announced the upcoming I-79 South ramp closure. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #Police #RampClosure

- The Commissioners approved the design and bid agreement with HRG Engineering for the 2023 Paving Project. The bid results will determine the scope of the project, but the goal is to pave Sewickley Ridge Drive, Sewickley Ridge Circle, and Sewickley Ridge Court and to tar and chip multiple roads throughout the Township, including roads in the Weber Road neighborhood, McCoy Place Road, and South McCoy Place Road. Here is what happened:
- Police Chief Joseph Hanny gave the report for the month of July, and President Jones explained that we are still working to develop an enforcement strategy for the issue of tractor trailers on Redgate Road. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting). #Police #TrucksUsingRedgateRoad

- General Election Location Update: Aleppo Township Judge of Elections Shirley Hasson explained that Allegheny County is planning to move the voting location for Aleppo Township from the Township Building to the North Way Christian Community Church at 200 Deer Run Road. North Way is located down the hill from the Township Building. All registered voters should be receiving notice in the mail from Allegheny County announcing this change.
