12/10/2018 Workshop Digest

Hi, Neighbors. We had an Aleppo Workshop Meeting on Monday night and I wanted to tell you what happened.

Before I get to the digest, let me start with three quick (but important!) reminders.

First, we will be having cookies and coffee following our meeting next Monday night (12/17/2018). Please join us to socialize, chit-chat, and enjoy being neighbors! (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting and for more details.) #Meetings #ChristmasCookies

Second, we will be collecting Christmas trees again this year. Please mark 1/7/2019 on your calendars for township crews to pick them up and make them into wood chips rather than go into a landfill. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #ChristmasTreeRecycling #PublicWorks

Third, with winter weather now a regular occurrence, please remember not to park on township roads when it’s snowing or when snow is expected. Our plow trucks cannot do their job when there are cars parked on the street and it’s not safe, so please move your cars to your driveways during snow events! (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #WinterMaintenance

OK, here’s what happened Monday night:

  • We discussed the ordinances that are required to adopt our 2019 budget and the millage rate that will pay for it … good news!–the draft budget does not include a tax increase! We will be voting on both the budget and millage ordinances at next week’s meeting, so please let us know if you have any thoughts on the issue. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.)  #Budget #TaxRate #Ordinance
  • We discussed a proposal to revise the township’s sewage disposal plan with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #Sewage #DEP
  • We discussed an ordinance to adopt the water rate that has been set by the Aleppo Township Authority. We will be voting on this ordinance at next week’s meeting, so please let us know if you have any thoughts. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #AleppoTownshipAuthority
  • We heard of a conditional use application for the former printing building on Deer Run Road to potentially be used as a permanent home for North Way Christian Community. (Click here to watch this portion of the meeting.) #DeerRunRoad #NorthWayChristianCommunity #PlanningZoning

Our next Legislative meeting will be on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Township Building. If any of these issues are important to you, please feel free to join us and voice your opinion. If you cannot attend the meeting in person, please feel free to share your thoughts with me by email and I will be sure to convey your feelings to the other commissioners.

As always, thanks for making Aleppo a great place to live.

Best wishes,

Matthew Doebler
Aleppo Township Commissioner
